Material Culture Seminars at the University of Queensland.

Material culture studies has been attracting renewed attention across the Australian humanities and social sciences, and at the University of Queensland we have been putting together a number of events and resources to support staff and students interested in materiality. In 2010, Dr Anna Pertierra and Dr Diana Young started organizing regular meetings with colleagues in anthropology, archaeology, art history, museum studies and media and cultural Studies and History, to share work in progress and discuss how material culture is approached from our various disciplines. This UQ Material Culture Group has been a great informal way of making connections across different parts of our University, as well as with people working in the cultural heritage and museums sectors.
Our principal activity for 2011 has been the launch of our first Material Culture seminar series, featuring scholars from different parts of the University of Queensland. We invite anyone near Brisbane to attend; seminars are held on Wednesdays from 12 to 1:30pm at the St Lucia campus (Level 4 Forgan Smith Tower).
