The School of Arts Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a permanent, full-time lectureship in Heritage Studies, tenable from 1 September 2018.
The School seeks an exceptional individual, who will play a key role in an exciting expansion of research, teaching and learning, professional development and knowledge-exchange activities at Manchester in the area of Heritage Studies. Based in the Institute for Cultural Practices (ICP), You will join the team delivering our existing successful postgraduate programmes in the areas of Art Gallery and Museum Studies, and Arts Management and Cultural Policy, and will also contribute to its current, ongoing development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and collaborative teaching and research capacity.
You will provide the capacity for expansion and development in the area of Heritage Studies by supporting our existing commitments to excellence in taught programmes, postgraduate research supervision and professional development, and by leading teaching within the new MA Heritage Studies, which will be launched in September 2018.
There will also be an opportunity contribute to undergraduate teaching in relevant subject areas. You will be cognisant of contemporary heritage theory, policy and management, will have experience of teaching in the field of heritage studies (or related areas, such as museum studies), and will have expertise in one or more the following areas: intangible cultural heritage, natural heritage, built heritage, ‘difficult’ heritage and heritage tourism. Applications are welcome from heritage or museum professionals with appropriate academic qualifications. You will be expected to make a strong contribution to the School’s research strategy, including through the publication of high-quality peer-reviewed research outputs and the potential to attract external research funding; to recruit and supervise PhD students; and to contribute to the management and administration of the subject area under the guidance of the Head of ICP and Head of Division.
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (BME) candidates are currently under-represented at this level in this area, we would particularly welcome applications from BME applicants. All appointments will be made on merit.
